Ocvrta akacija/Fried acacia

Please scroll down for English

Preko polij maso in ocvri v vročem olju.

Fried acacia

Frying is apparently not healthy. But wait. If we fry vegetables or fruits or something that is on default healthy it can’t turn out bad. If you take a walk in the woods in this time of the year you can smell the sweetnes in the air. Acacia (it sounds so Italian) blossoms. Why not fry it..? Acacia which has come to us from East Africa is quite widespread. From flowers which are mostly white, with some additions you can also cook tea, which has its own unique flavor. I familiar with this dish since I was a child, cause a variatio of this dish is in my first cookbook, that I have made when I was a kid. In fact, I riped out the peages of our Slowenian child magazin Ciciban and clipped togeather the peages with the recipes and turned them into a book.

Ingredients:

  • acacia or/and elder (depends on hunger)
  • 1 egg
  • 1,5 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • oil for frying

Mix the all ingredients together until you have a homogeneous liquid (not to lose, not to dense but suit yourself 🙂 ) Rinse the acacia under cold watter and order it in a circle on the plate, so that the stalks look outward. Spill the batter over the flowers so they are completly covered. Deep fry them in hot oil. And serve them with homemade apricot jam or acacia honey. And ofcurse, with elder juice. Easy-peasy.

PS: you can also use beer for the batter, half beer and half milk.
